Use PowerPress’s import tool to bring an existing podcast, its show information, and its episodes into WordPress.
These instructions work with both Blubrry WordPress websites and self-hosted WordPress websites using PowerPress.
If you have not decided how you want to publish with Blubrry, see [Move Your Podcast to Blubrry] before continuing.
Before you begin
You will need:
- The RSS feed URL from your current podcast host
- Access to your WordPress dashboard
- PowerPress installed and activated
- A Blubrry Podcast Hosting account connected to PowerPress
Do not cancel your current hosting service or request a feed redirect until you have completed the import and confirmed that the new podcast feed works correctly.
Open the PowerPress import tool
How you reach the import tool depends on the type of WordPress website you use.
Blubrry WordPress website
If you have not created your Blubrry WordPress website yet, follow [Set Up a Blubrry WordPress Website] before continuing.
If you created a Blubrry WordPress website during onboarding:
- On the Blubrry onboarding success page, select Finish Setup in PowerPress.
- Sign in to your WordPress website using the credentials provided when the site was created.
- On the PowerPress Get Started page, select Import RSS Feed.
Self-hosted WordPress website
If you use your own self-hosted WordPress website:
- Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Make sure PowerPress is installed, activated, and connected to your Blubrry account.
- Go to PowerPress > Get Started.
- Select Import RSS Feed.
Import your podcast
- Enter your current podcast’s RSS feed URL in the Podcast Feed URL field.
- Leave Advanced Options closed.
- Select Import Podcast.
The import may take several minutes. Keep the page open while PowerPress processes the podcast.
Advanced Options: PowerPress includes additional controls for changing how the podcast and its episodes are imported. We recommend using the default settings unless you understand the available options or Blubrry Support has instructed you to change them.
Review the import results
When the import finishes, PowerPress displays:
- The show information and artwork that were imported
- The episodes that were imported
- Any episodes that were skipped or already existed
- Information about the media migration
Review the results and make sure the expected show information and episodes were imported.
Select Continue when you are ready to proceed.
Review your PowerPress feed settings
After selecting Continue, PowerPress opens the Welcome tab.
- Select the Feeds tab.
- Review the imported podcast information and feed settings.
- Correct any missing or inaccurate information.
- Save your changes if you make any updates.
- Find and copy the new PowerPress podcast RSS feed URL.
Before requesting a redirect, open the new feed and confirm that it contains the correct podcast information and episodes.
Redirect your previous podcast feed
After confirming that the PowerPress feed is correct, contact your previous podcast host or follow its migration instructions to redirect your old RSS feed to the new PowerPress feed.
Provide your previous host with the new PowerPress podcast RSS feed URL when requested.
The redirect allows podcast apps and existing subscribers to begin using the new feed. Do not submit the podcast as a new show if it is already listed in podcast directories. Submitting it again may create duplicate listings.
Confirm the move
After the redirect has been added:
- Confirm that the old feed redirects to the new PowerPress feed.
- Check your show in major podcast apps.
- Confirm that the show information and episodes appear correctly.
- Play several episodes to make sure the media files work.
Do not cancel your previous hosting service until the import, media migration, and feed redirect have all been completed and verified.
