If you're moving your podcast to a new hosting provider or changing your RSS feed address, you'll need to redirect your old feed to the new one.
A 301 redirect tells podcast apps and directories that your RSS feed has permanently moved. This helps ensure your existing subscribers continue receiving new episodes without needing to subscribe again.
The steps depend on how you currently publish your podcast.
Redirect a Feed Using Blubrry Publisher
If you publish your podcast using Blubrry Publisher, you can set up a redirect directly from your Blubrry account.
- Log in to your Blubrry account.
- Go to Show > Manage.
- Select Redirect Feed Link.
- Choose Redirect Feed.
- Enter your new RSS feed address in the Redirect Feed field.
- Click Save.
Your old Blubrry RSS feed will now redirect to your new feed address.
Redirect a Feed Using WordPress and PowerPress
If you use WordPress with the PowerPress plugin to publish your podcast, you can configure a feed redirect within PowerPress.
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to PowerPress Settings.
- Select Feeds > Feed Settings.
- Find the PodcastMirror Feed URL field.
- Enter your new RSS feed address.
- Click Save Changes.
Your PowerPress RSS feed will redirect to the new address.
Important: Your WordPress website must remain active for the redirect to continue working.
Redirect a Feed Hosted Elsewhere
If your podcast RSS feed is hosted by another provider, you'll need to configure the redirect through that provider.
Contact your current hosting provider or check their documentation for instructions on setting up a permanent 301 redirect.
The redirect must be configured at your old feed address, not your new one.
Verify Your Feed Redirect
After setting up your redirect, make sure it's working correctly.
- Copy your old podcast RSS feed address.
- Open a new browser tab.
- Paste the old feed address into the address bar.
- Confirm that the browser takes you to your new RSS feed address.
If the browser doesn't redirect, double-check your settings. You may also need to clear your website's cache or allow time for the changes to take effect.
How Long Should You Keep the Redirect Active?
We recommend keeping your 301 redirect active indefinitely, whenever possible.
At a minimum, maintain the redirect for four weeks to give podcast apps and directories time to recognize the change.
Removing the redirect too soon could prevent existing subscribers from receiving new episodes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose my subscribers when I redirect my feed?
A properly configured 301 redirect allows compatible podcast apps to update your feed address automatically. Most existing subscribers should continue receiving your episodes without taking any action.
Will my podcast remain available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify?
In most cases, yes. Podcast directories that follow the redirect should recognize your new feed address. However, some platforms may require additional steps to update your podcast's RSS feed.
Do I need to submit my podcast again?
Usually not. A working 301 redirect should allow most podcast directories to recognize your new feed automatically.
What if my old hosting provider doesn't support 301 redirects?
Contact your previous hosting provider to ask about alternative feed migration options. Some podcast platforms also support feed-specific migration tools.
