Creating Multiple Podcast Feeds in PowerPress

A podcaster may want to syndicate multiple podcast feeds to reach a broader audience, support different formats (audio, video, etc.), or organize content into separate shows. Blubrry PowerPress provides several ways to do this, depending on how you want to structure your content.

Note: As of PowerPress 11.16, Taxonomy Podcasting and Post-Type Podcasting are no longer available for new setups. These features remain accessible for existing users who previously enabled them and are now considered legacy options.

Getting Started: The Recommended Approach

If you’re just getting started, most podcasters should use:

Podcast Channels

Podcast Channels are the most flexible and actively supported way to manage multiple podcast feeds in PowerPress. They allow you to:

• Publish multiple versions of an episode (e.g., audio and video)
• Manage different podcast feeds from the same post
• Keep your workflow simple without duplicating content

For most use cases, Podcast Channels are the best place to start.

Other Podcasting Methods

PowerPress includes additional ways to create multiple podcast feeds. Some are useful for specific workflows, while others are more advanced or considered legacy.

• Category Podcasting – Add podcasts to your existing WordPress categories
• Podcast Channels – Create additional podcast feeds directly within your posts
• Taxonomy Podcasting (Legacy) – Add podcasts to custom taxonomies (advanced WordPress classifications)
• Post-Type Podcasting (Legacy) – Add podcast feeds to custom post types (advanced WordPress content types)

Category and Taxonomy Podcasting

Category Podcasting and Taxonomy Podcasting are useful if you want to create multiple related podcast feeds from a single website while using the same episode structure.

Note: Taxonomy Podcasting is a legacy feature and is not available for new setups as of PowerPress 11.16.

Both methods use the default podcast episode box, meaning each post is limited to a single media file. However, they allow you to organize episodes into separate podcast feeds based on categories or classifications. Category Podcasting is the simpler option and is often used to group similar types of content into separate feeds. Taxonomy Podcasting is a more advanced option that uses custom WordPress classifications (taxonomies), which are typically created by themes or plugins.

Podcast Channels and Post-Type Podcasting

Podcast Channels and Post-Type Podcasting allow you to create multiple podcast feeds tied to the same content while supporting multiple media files per post.

Note: Post-Type Podcasting is a legacy feature and is not available for new setups as of PowerPress 11.16.

Podcast Channels apply to standard WordPress posts and allow you to attach multiple media files to a single post using separate episode boxes. This is ideal for publishing different formats (such as audio and video) without duplicating your content. Post-Type Podcasting works similarly but applies to custom post types (advanced WordPress content types), which are typically added by themes or plugins.
