Move a podcast hosted by Spotify for Creators—formerly Spotify for Podcasters and Anchor—to Blubrry while keeping your existing subscribers and directory listings.
The process has three main parts:
- Import your podcast into Blubrry.
- Confirm that the new feed and episodes work correctly.
- Redirect your Spotify for Creators feed to the new feed.
Do not add the redirect or delete your Spotify for Creators account until you have completed the import and verified your new podcast feed.
Before you begin
You will need:
- Access to your show in Spotify for Creators
- Your current Spotify for Creators RSS feed URL
- An active Blubrry Podcast Hosting plan
- The new RSS feed URL you will use after the move
If you want to retain your Spotify for Creators analytics, download or record them before moving. Historical statistics do not transfer between hosting providers.
Import your podcast
Follow the instructions for your Blubrry publishing method:
- To publish from the Blubrry dashboard, follow [Move Your Podcast to Blubrry Publisher].
- To publish from WordPress, follow [Import an Existing Podcast into PowerPress].
Complete the entire import process before adding a redirect in Spotify for Creators.
Check your new podcast feed
Before redirecting the Spotify for Creators feed:
- Open your new podcast feed in a browser.
- Confirm that the podcast title, description, artwork, and other show information are correct.
- Confirm that the expected episodes appear.
- Play several older and newer episodes.
- Make sure the episode media files are being delivered from the correct location.
Correct any problems before continuing.
Disable Spotify subscriptions
If you offer paid subscriptions through Spotify for Creators, open the Monetize tab and disable them before redirecting the podcast.
Consider how existing paid subscribers will receive content after the move before disabling or replacing any subscription service.
Redirect your Spotify for Creators feed
You must use the Spotify for Creators website to create the redirect. The redirect cannot be configured from its mobile app.
- Sign in at Spotify for Creators.
- Select the show you are moving.
- Select Settings.
- Find Redirect your podcast.
- Paste your new Blubrry Publisher or PowerPress RSS feed URL into the field.
- Select Redirect.
Spotify’s current instructions are available in Switching away from Spotify for Creators with a 301 redirect.
Confirm the redirect
After adding the redirect:
- Open your old Spotify for Creators RSS feed URL in a browser.
- Confirm that it redirects to your new feed URL.
- Check your show in Spotify and other major podcast apps.
- Confirm that the show information and episodes still appear correctly.
- Play several episodes to make sure the media files work.
Spotify says that a redirect may take up to seven days to complete.
Do not submit the new feed as a separate podcast if your show is already available in podcast directories. Submitting it again may create duplicate listings.
Before closing your Spotify for Creators account
Wait at least seven days after creating the redirect before deleting your Spotify for Creators account. Do not close it until:
- The podcast has been imported successfully
- The new feed contains the correct show information and episodes
- The old feed redirects to the new feed
- The show continues to update and play correctly in podcast apps
If your Spotify for Creators account was deleted before the redirect was created, contact Spotify for assistance.
