If you use WordPress and the Blubrry PowerPress plugin to publish your podcast, you can move your existing media files to Blubrry Hosting without changing how you publish episodes.
PowerPress includes a migration tool that transfers your podcast media files from your current hosting provider to Blubrry and updates your existing episodes to use the new media file URLs.
Your podcast episodes, website, and RSS feed remain managed through WordPress and PowerPress.
Before You Begin
To migrate your podcast media, you'll need:
- An active Blubrry Podcast Hosting account.
- A WordPress website with the Blubrry PowerPress plugin installed and activated.
- PowerPress connected to your Blubrry Hosting account.
If you haven't connected PowerPress to your Blubrry account, complete that setup before beginning the migration.
Step 1: Request Your Media Migration
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
- In the left menu, navigate to PowerPress > Migrate Media.
- Under Step 1, click Select Media to Migrate.
- Select the types of media files you want to transfer to Blubrry.
- Click Request Migration to begin the process.
PowerPress will begin transferring your selected podcast media files from their existing locations to Blubrry Hosting.
You do not need to manually download and reupload each media file.
Step 2: Check Your Migration Progress
The migration process may take some time, depending on how many media files you're transferring and their sizes.
To check your progress:
- Return to PowerPress > Migrate Media in your WordPress dashboard.
- Locate Step 2 on the migration page.
- Refresh the migration status periodically to see which files have been transferred.
You can leave the migration page and return later to check its progress.
If any files cannot be migrated, the migration tool will provide information about the errors so you can identify which files need attention.
Step 3: Update Your Episode Media URLs
Once your media files have been transferred to Blubrry, you'll need to update your existing episodes to use the new Blubrry media URLs.
- Return to PowerPress > Migrate Media.
- Under Step 3, click Update Your Episodes.
- Allow PowerPress to update the media URLs for your migrated episodes.
This replaces the previous media file URLs in your WordPress episodes with the new URLs pointing to Blubrry Hosting.
Important: Transferring your media files doesn't automatically mean your episodes are using them. You must complete this step to ensure your podcast episodes reference the files hosted by Blubrry.
Step 4: Verify Your Episodes
Before canceling your previous podcast hosting service, make sure your episodes are using their new Blubrry media files.
We recommend:
- Opening several existing podcast episodes in WordPress.
- Confirming that their media URLs point to Blubrry Hosting.
- Testing playback to make sure the media files load correctly.
- Checking your podcast RSS feed to confirm that the episodes reference the new media URLs.
If any files failed to migrate, review the errors reported by the migration tool before canceling your previous hosting service.
Do You Need to Redirect Your RSS Feed?
In most cases, you do not need to redirect your RSS feed when migrating media through PowerPress.
Because your podcast continues to use WordPress and PowerPress for publishing, your existing RSS feed remains in place. The migration simply changes whe
