Move your existing podcast from Buzzsprout to Blubrry without creating a new directory listing or asking current subscribers to resubscribe.
The process has three main parts:
- Import your podcast into Blubrry.
- Confirm that the new feed and episodes work correctly.
- Redirect your Buzzsprout feed to the new feed.
Do not add the redirect until you have completed the import and verified your new podcast feed.
Before you begin
You will need:
- Access to your Buzzsprout account
- Your current Buzzsprout RSS feed URL
- An active Blubrry Podcast Hosting plan
- The new RSS feed URL you will use after the move
If you want to retain your Buzzsprout statistics or other account information, download or record it before moving. Historical statistics do not transfer between hosting providers.
Import your podcast
Follow the instructions for your Blubrry publishing method:
- To publish from the Blubrry dashboard, follow [Move Your Podcast to Blubrry Publisher].
- To publish from WordPress, follow [Import an Existing Podcast into PowerPress].
Complete the entire import process before adding a redirect in Buzzsprout.
Check your new podcast feed
Before redirecting the Buzzsprout feed:
- Open your new podcast feed in a browser.
- Confirm that the podcast title, description, artwork, and other show information are correct.
- Confirm that the expected episodes appear.
- Play several older and newer episodes.
- Make sure the episode media files are being delivered from the correct location.
Correct any problems before continuing.
Redirect your Buzzsprout feed
A permanent feed redirect tells podcast apps and subscribers that your podcast has moved to a new RSS feed.
To add the redirect:
- Sign in to your Buzzsprout account.
- Go to Settings > Podcast Settings.
- Select the Redirect tab.
- Follow Buzzsprout’s steps to back up your podcast and prepare the redirect.
- Enter your new Blubrry Publisher or PowerPress RSS feed URL when prompted.
- Select the confirmation checkbox.
- Select Redirect RSS Feed and Downgrade to the Buzzsprout Free Plan.
If your Buzzsprout account contains multiple podcasts, you must redirect each podcast separately.
Buzzsprout’s current instructions are available in How do I move to a new host?.
Confirm the redirect
After placing the redirect:
- Open your old Buzzsprout RSS feed URL in a browser.
- Confirm that it redirects to your new feed URL.
- Check your show in major podcast apps.
- Confirm that the show information and episodes still appear correctly.
- Play several episodes to make sure the media files work.
Podcast apps may require time to recognize the feed change.
Do not submit the new feed as a separate podcast if your show is already available in podcast directories. Submitting it again may create duplicate listings.
Before closing your Buzzsprout account
Buzzsprout schedules the account to downgrade to its free plan at the end of the current billing cycle after the redirect is created. Buzzsprout recommends keeping the account active for at least three weeks following the redirect.
Do not close the account until:
- The podcast has been imported successfully
- The new feed contains the correct show information and episodes
- The old Buzzsprout feed redirects to the new feed
- The show continues to update and play correctly in podcast apps
Keeping the free account and redirect active provides continued forwarding for podcast apps or subscribers that still request the old feed.
