Move your existing podcast from Podomatic to Blubrry without creating a new directory listing or asking current subscribers to resubscribe.
The process has three main parts:
- Import your podcast into Blubrry.
- Confirm that the new feed and episodes work correctly.
- Ask Podomatic to redirect your old feed to the new feed.
Do not request the redirect or cancel your Podomatic service until you have completed the import and verified your new podcast feed.
Before you begin
You will need:
- Access to your Podomatic account
- Your current Podomatic RSS feed URL
- An active Blubrry Podcast Hosting plan
- The new RSS feed URL you will use after the move
If you want to retain your Podomatic statistics, download or record them before moving. Historical statistics do not transfer between hosting providers.
Import your podcast
Follow the instructions for your Blubrry publishing method:
- To publish from the Blubrry dashboard, follow [Move Your Podcast to Blubrry Publisher].
- To publish from WordPress, follow [Import an Existing Podcast into PowerPress].
Complete the entire import process before requesting a redirect from Podomatic.
Check your new podcast feed
Before redirecting the Podomatic feed:
- Open your new podcast feed in a browser.
- Confirm that the podcast title, description, artwork, and other show information are correct.
- Confirm that the expected episodes appear.
- Play several older and newer episodes.
- Make sure the episode media files are being delivered from the correct location.
Correct any problems before continuing.
Request a redirect from Podomatic
Podomatic redirects are processed manually by its support and engineering teams.
To request a redirect:
- Open the blue support chat on the Podomatic website.
- Tell Podomatic Support that you are moving your podcast to a new host and need a permanent 301 redirect.
- Provide:
- Your current Podomatic RSS feed URL
- Your new Blubrry Publisher or PowerPress RSS feed URL
- Complete any additional steps provided by Podomatic Support.
- Wait for confirmation that the redirect has been added.
Podomatic says redirects are included for Pro customers with a current subscription. Customers using a free account must pay a $10 processing fee. Podomatic estimates that a redirect request usually takes approximately five business days.
See Podomatic’s current 301 Redirect instructions for its latest requirements and pricing.
Confirm the redirect
After Podomatic confirms that the redirect has been added:
- Open your old Podomatic RSS feed URL in a browser.
- Confirm that it redirects to your new feed URL.
- Check your show in major podcast apps.
- Confirm that the show information and episodes still appear correctly.
- Play several episodes to make sure the media files work.
Podcast apps may require additional time to recognize the feed change.
Do not submit the new feed as a separate podcast if your show is already available in podcast directories. Submitting it again may create duplicate listings.
Before closing your Podomatic account
Do not close or downgrade your Podomatic account until:
- The podcast has been imported successfully
- The new feed contains the correct show information and episodes
- The old Podomatic feed redirects to the new feed
- The show continues to update and play correctly in podcast apps
Confirm with Podomatic that the redirect will remain active before canceling or changing your account.
